Virial Clumps in Central Molecular Zone Clouds

چکیده

Abstract CMZoom survey observations with the Submillimeter Array are analyzed to describe virial equilibrium (VE) and star-forming potential of 755 clumps in 22 clouds Central Molecular Zone (CMZ) Milky Way. In each cloud, nearly all follow column density–mass trend N ∝ M s , where = 0.38 ± 0.03 is near pressure-bounded limit p 1/3. This expected when gravitationally unbound VE have similar velocity dispersion external pressure. Nine these also harbor one or two distinctly more massive clumps. These properties allow a model bound most clump has critical mass. models indicate that 213 1–2 km −1 mean pressure (0.5–4) × 10 8 cm −3 K, fraction 0.06, typical parameter α 4–15. mostly may be their turbulent cloud pressure, possibly driven by inflow from Galactic bar. contrast, Sgr B2 according associated sources – trends. When CMZ combined into mass distributions, power-law slope stopped accretion. It indicates cannot grow significantly, due timescales accretion dispersal, ∼0.2 Myr. Thus, dynamical analyses extensive census available star formation suppressed significant deficit

Hh Illumination of Clumps within Molecular Clouds

Molecular clouds are clumpy. Much of the clumpiness is unresolved by single-dish telescopes but is apparent in the data from array telescopes. Even in the unresolved observational data, the existence of clumpiness can be inferred from the distribution of molecular species. This evidence requires that “early-time” molecular species are widespread, while “late-time” species are more confined, and...

Models of wave supported clumps in giant molecular clouds

We present plane-parallel equilibrium models of molecular clumps that are supported by Alfvén waves damped by the linear process of ion-neutral friction. We used a WKB approximation to treat the inward propagation of waves and adopted a realistic ionization structure influenced by dissociation and ionization due to photons of external origin. The model clumps contain central condensations surro...

Clumps and triggered star formation in ionised molecular clouds

Infrared shells and bubbles are ubiquitous in the Galaxy and can generally be associated with Hii regions formed around young, massive stars. In this paper, we use high-resolution 3D SPH simulations to explore the effect of a single O7 star emitting photons at 1049 s−1 and located at the centre of a molecular cloud with mass 104 M ⊙ and radius 6.4 pc; the internal structure of the cloud is char...

The morphology of clumps in molecular clouds excited by radiation from HH objects

We have investigated the influence of the radiation field from a Herbig-Haro object on a spherical clump, as the HH object passes by the clump. We have included a limited chemistry, and show column density maps of HCO+ and NH3 to represent the morphology of the predicted emission regions. The morphology is sensitive both to the orientation of the line of sight with respect to the HH trajectory ...

Low Virial Parameters in Molecular Clouds: Implications for High Mass Star Formation and Magnetic Fields

Whether or not molecular clouds and embedded cloud fragments are stable against collapse is of utmost importance for the study of the star formation process. Only “supercritical” cloud fragments are able to collapse and form stars. The virial parameter α = Mvir/M , which compares the virial to the actual mass, provides one way to gauge stability against collapse. Supercritical cloud fragments a...
